It's a GIRL!

I love my little present, baby Marit Marjorie!
Bienvenidos! Velkommen! Vitajte! Välkommen! Willkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome!

Our baby girl, Marit Marjorie Benziger, was born at 12:51 P.M. on 12/12/14. She weighed 7 lbs. and 11 oz. and was 20 inches long. She is already better behaved than her older brother in that she patiently waited to come out on time so I could finish my Masters of Public Health finals. However, she stubbornly insisted on being upside down (breech) so I had a repeat c-section. Being a type A personality, it was nice of her to give me a scheduled day to come so I could finish up some projects and run some errands (like bring the car in for an overdue oil change, wrap Christmas presents, bring Theo to see Santa and the Lionel steam train, finish my research project, etc.). We have been in denial about the second child for quite some time, but now that she is here we are overjoyed!

Her name, Marit (pronounced MA-rit), is a Scandinavian name for Margaret (and current name of the Crown Princess of Norway) and is derived from the word maragon, meaning pearl. Her middle name, Marjorie, was Seth's grandmother's name.

The first two weeks have flown by and we are actually sleeping better than anticipated! She is feeding well and not very fussy. It's been great to have Grandma and Grandpa Pastorius here to help out as well. Grandpa even surprised us and arrived a day early and was able to come to the hospital and see his first grand-daughter shortly after her birth. Theo has been a great big brother. He was excited to come visit mom and dad in the hospital but avoided any eye contact with the baby for a few days. It took about a week for him to realize she wasn't going anywhere and he actually kissed her goodbye one morning before going to daycare, which was adorable! He helps change her diaper and sits next to me on the couch and tickles her head while she feeds and sometimes he lets her have a car or train to play with, too. He also got to open all of her presents (more about Christmas in another post). He's still adjusting but I think he'll be a good big brother and I'm sure he'll thank us eventually.
