A long winter 2022

Lunar eclipse, when the Earth is between the sun and the moon and casts a shadow over the moon

We love the winter but this winter was a particularly long winter. Our first snow in Duluth, MN usually comes just before Halloween and lasts until April. While the temperatures dropped in November below freezing, the snow didn't stick around until Christmas making early season skiing challenging. We had season passes to ski at Spirit Mountain again but the kids did not want to be on the ski team this year so they took a few lessons instead. By the time the full hill opened, the temperatures plummeted below zero in January and it was too frigid to ski much or for long periods of time. I did manage to get out and cross country ski a few times with my friend Carolyn, even well into April and on Easter!

We escaped the cold for a few weeks in Hawaii in January. The snow continued into late April due to persistently freezing temps and wouldn't melt. The local ski hills stayed open in April. Then viola, the daffodils and crocuses and tulips reappeared in May, just after Mother's day, and there was a lunar eclipse and winter was over. They say April (snow) showers bring May flowers, right?

We adopted 2 new family members - Lightning and Buttercup. They are guinea pigs and the kids love playing with them.
