Welcome to the North Shore!
Our house in Seattle sold last night after being on the market a whopping six days! Now, we are officially Duluthians!
On my last night in Seattle, I had a going away party at Westward on Lake Union. It was so fun to have so many wonderful friends and neighbors stop by to say goodbye. Thank you for being my friend!
We love our new neighborhood in Duluth, Hidden Valley, and have received baked good from no less than four neighbors in the first 48 hours. Everyone is very friendly and the neighborhood has lots of kids, including the next door neighbors, Daniel and Natalie, who are 7 and 5 years respectively. We had our first visitors - cousins Evie and Josie.
Duluth is a beautiful city on the north shore of Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world (by surface area, third largest by volume)! We only moved in on September 26th and so far have had many visitors, including a family of four deer and a large black bear!
We moved just in time for the peak of the fall colors and were fortunate to have the Winiecki family come up to visit. We drove up to Split Rock Lighthouse, the most visited landmark in Minnesota!
The story goes that in 1905 a bad November gale wrecked 29 ships prompting locals in the iron ore, lumber, fish, and grain industries who traversed these waters often to levy congress for more funding for lighthouses to ensure safer passage across the lake. The lighthouse was completed in 1910 and remains a popular tourist destination today.
Next, we headed to Illgin falls where we were entertained by a local kayaker looking for an adrenaline rush.
We refreshed with a pint at Castle Danger taproom in Two Harbors. Back home, we hike four blocks from our back yard to Tischer Creek and the Congdon Trail. We enjoy our afternoon hike down to the creek almost daily and it is always different. One day after a heavy rain the creek was raging and the falls were stunning.
Last week we enjoyed a few days on the sandy shores of Naples and Bonita Springs for Jackie and Ryan's wedding. The hotel had not one, not two, not three, not four, but five waterslides and a lazy river! Theo was in heaven!
I don't know many five year olds both tall enough (need to be 48" to get a wrist band for three of the waterslides) or brave enough to go down the waterslides but he was great. We saw many Macalester friends including Annie Borton, Cara Goff and Nick Sikon, Leela Lavasani and Marty Graham. It was a very relaxing trip and a nice family vacation to celebrate finishing my cardiology board exams.
We are excited to get settled in our new house and have many guest rooms for any visitors who may be headed this way. Please let us know when you are in town!
