Summer Vacation at Camp Weber and Balsam Lake
Theo and Marit's Summer Vacation at Camp Weber
By Auntie Anne Weber
We knew for quite some time that Katie was (FINALLY!) going to graduate from her Cardiology Fellowship from the University of Washington. She wanted us all to be there and we were a proud bunch hearing her accolades and seeing her smiles reflecting on her strenuous journey thus far into cardiac medicine. So the Weber family seized the opportunity to visit the Pacific Northwest, visiting Weber relatives in Port Townsend, then exploring Vancouver Island and Orcas Island before attending Katie's graduation. Grandma JoJo and Papa John arrived in Seattle a few days early to enjoy the city and spend some time with Katie and Seth. While we all would have liked to spend more time with Katie and Seth, the wedding of Rob Pletscher and Paige Griffiths was in Minnesota the night after Katie's graduation, and Uncle Dan was the best man, so a prompt return to Minnesota was planned. JoJo and Papa had fun taking Theo and Marit on vacation in their own city. Coincidentally (we think it may have been planned) Theo and Marit's daycare was to be closed for two weeks immediately following her graduation weekend, so what did we decide to do? Since there are only 12 weekends of summer in Minnesota, so we did what any logical people would do-we flew Theo and Marit back to Minnesota with us (leaving their parents in Seattle to work) on an 8am Saturday morning flight to spend their 16 days at the Weber pool and Pastorius Balsam Lake cabin. Hence, Camp Weber commenced! (Did I mention we also had our toddler and newborn along for the trip and Katie and Seth were staying in Seattle?)
Marit and Theo spared us their usual airport shenanigans and we all made it through two international airports, one sub three hour flight, and one minivan ride to "camp Weber" in Blaine, Minnesota. Eric's sister kindly watched Theo, Marit and Evie for the evening so the four adults and Josie could attend the Pletscher wedding! Theo couldn't wait to swim in the pool and didn't want to stay out of the pool for the majority of the week! Cooler temps (65-70) kept most of the adults deck side, but Papa was his usual playful self and happily joined the kids in the pool any time they wished! Since Uncle Dan was in town for the wedding, he got to join in on the fun at Camp Weber, spending a few hours on Sunday and Monday with the fam before jetting off to New York, New York to continue his PM&R medical residency at NYU. Thanks for spending some time with us, Dan! We had lots of fun playing outside and swimming in the pool. We managed to squeeze some time in for trains and a visit to the Eagle's Nest indoor playground before heading up to Balsam Lake for the holiday weekend. We could not wait to get to the cabin, so the unfortunate news that the sod could not go in as planned on Wednesday, did little to diminish our plans for the weekend. After all, a little dirt never hurt!
