Newborn picture and 1st birthday - what a difference a year makes! |
|
It's so hard getting old! |
I turned 1! First, we had a small celebration at our home in Seattle. Uncle Dan and Theo made me cupcakes on my actual birthday as Mommy had to work all weekend. They were delicious and we devoured them. Theo prefers just the frosting and so he fed me his leftover cake. We opened a few presents and then had a big party with the rest of my extended family in Chicago the following weekend. It was fun to see my big cousins - Maya, Zachary, and Danika, as well as a surprise visit from my little cousin, Evelyn, and Auntie Annie. All four of my grandparents were there, too! I slept through half the party but woke up just in time for some more cupcakes - chocolate this time.

Yummy! Birthday cupcake! |
Since I had had practice the weekend before, I carefully picked it up and devoured the entire cupcake while over 20 people watched and laughed. The public humiliation begins...better get used to it. We had an action-packed week in the Chicago area with lots of birthday celebrations (me, Maya, Grandpa Benziger and Mommy) as well as Christmas events (but more on that in the next blog post). It was a rough four hour flight home today as I only slept for 20 minutes and wouldn't sit still in the seat on Mommy's lap for more than 3 minutes at a time. Mommy and Daddy threatened to cancel our upcoming flights to Costa Rica and Mexico if I don't get my act together. Do they know how hard it is to sit still when all your muscles want to do is move around and you just want to explore? Or what it is like with all these great mystery "doors" (also known as cabinets) are closed in the kitchen and you just have to know what's inside them and so you open all of them and then take everything out?! And why do they always close the pantry and bathroom doors? I'm so curious that I run to get in every time I see them left open! And so begins toddler-hood... wish us luck!
