When you're running down to first...

Mommy and I playing in the park above Larcomar, the big shopping mall in the cliff above the ocean.
Did you know diarrhea is genetics...it runs in your jeans!

"When you’re running down to first and you feel something burst…diarrhea! Diarrhea!"*

Well I suppose you know what this post is going to be about! I guess this is what happens when you drink the tap water, eat ceviche and anticuchos and enjoy a pisco sour or two… just kidding! That’s what Mommy does and she’s fine but I, on the other hand, have the runs. I have gone through twice as many diapers in the past four days as I usually do and my bottom is quite pink. It's painful to wipe my bottom and so mommy washes me off in the tub. So far don’t have a fever and I have been drinking lots of pedialyte (so much that we ran out of our supply and had to buy more). I’m eating fine, playing with all the kiddos at the various parks and I’m sure it will go away soon (or else Mommy might send me back with Daddy when he comes in less than 2 weeks ;) ).
*A quick literature search on diarrhea found this very helpful article: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/yellowbook/2014/chapter-2-the-pre-travel-consultation/travelers-diarrhea  on Traveler’s diarrhea (TD for short), which basically says for kids you have to tough it out and make sure you don’t get dehydrated and by day 5 you should be ok.

We hung out around Lima this weekend and met up with some of the current Fogarty Fellows who are here for the year, like Mommy was in 2009-10. Mommy's mentor, Joe Zunt, from the University of Washington was here and there was a reunion of all Fogarty's, current and past. It’s refreshing to hear people speak in English however my Spanish is improving, “Hola,” “Besos,” “Leche,” and “Gracias” have been added to my vocabulary, which I mostly just sign (wave, give a kiss, make a fist, and move your hand from your chin down, respectively).

Playing in one of the five parques with the other kids:

Parque del pirates (pirate park)

I climbed all the way up this slide and flew down and tried to slow down but hit my chin on the bottom of the slide and cried. :(

Wee!

Another sunset

Antecuchos y pollo en la parrilla

Eagerly awaiting the antecuchos

Every Sunday, they have zumba in the streets and areas for kids to play in the park
The torro (bull) in Miraflores, a symbol of protection.

At first we were sharing the ball. She gave it to me...

then she took it away! Then, I took it back and she hit me!

And her mom made her give me a kiss and say "Sorry."

Ewww! Girl germs!

Time for a break and some delicious Peruvian sandwiches, chicha morrada and postres (desserts)
